Here is where we will put some student activities
that use world maps as a prompt for discussion.
These are designed to help build a solid mental map
to put historic facts and current events in perspective.
For example:
- BI1 World Human Migration countdown activity a flowline map construction activity
- BI1 World Early Civilizations activity a latitude inference mini-activity
- BI1 World Continent Population 1 and 2010 a map comparison mini-activity
- BI1P World Population History of Continents data table
- BI1 World Population and Wealth by Region a symbol-map construction activity
- BI1 World Religion matching activity and TN a symbol-map matching activity
- BI1 World Oil Production by Region a map-symbol-preference activity
- BI1O World Oil Discovery and Use graph a simple but key graph
- BI1 World Simple Environment activities key latitude lines, climates, rock types
Here is a scaffolded pair of activities
that use the same set of maps –
in 6th grade to teach about subregions,
and in 7th to teach about empires –
with some prior familiarity of names,
these should be easier to learn!
- BI1Bx Ancient Cities map comparison activity Easy
- BI1Bx Ancient Cities map comparison activity Difficult
- BI1B Ancient Cities and Temperatures presentation
- BI1HE World Empires matching activity Easy
- BI1HE World Empires teacher notes 6
